About Boothe Eye Care and Laser Center

Director of Boothe Eyecare

The Boothe Eye Care and Laser Center offers life-changing opportunities for people living with nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism. Using advanced laser technologies, the Center has restored crystal clear vision for nearly 200,000 patients from across the nation. Every year, thousands more continue to visit the Center in Plano, Texas, looking to correct their vision and experience improved quality of life.

The most common corrective vision treatments performed at the Boothe Laser Center are traditional LASIK and INTRALASIK procedures. Both involve using an excimer laser to reshape corneal tissue and correct optical errors that cause eyesight to be blurry. LASIK and INTRALASIK procedures are virtually the same, only the latter is performed entirely with the use of a laser. To create the corneal flap needed to expose underlying tissues, traditional LASIK employs the use of a handheld blade, called a microkeratome, whereas INTRALASIK uses a laser to make the incision.

Founded in 1987, the Boothe Laser Center houses the most cutting edge laser technologies used in refractive eye surgery today. These systems enable every laser procedure to be performed with remarkable precision and to be fine-tuned for the unique characteristics of each patient’s eye. Dr. William Boothe, the founder of the Center, actively pursues the latest technological breakthroughs to ensure the best possible results for his patients.

Some of the advanced systems used at the Boothe Laser Center include VISX Star4, which tracks the eye’s smallest movements during the procedure, allowing the laser to correct itself up to 4,000 times per second. The Wavefront Customized INTRALASIK system identifies the most detailed aberrations in each patient’s eye so the laser can excise tissue in exactly the right places. The Boothe Laser Center also employs the ALLEGRETTO Wave™ Eye-Q, a unique tool for charting the exact curvature and biomechanics of the eye. The Allegretto Wave also uses PerfectPulse Technology, which controls and calibrates the laser energy pulses for maximum safety, precision and speed.

Dr. Boothe was one of the first surgeons in the country to offer laser surgery at his clinic shortly after the excimer laser was approved for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He was also among the first few surgeons to be trained to use the technology. His pioneering role in the practice of laser surgery is reflected in his success as the preeminent provider across the country today. The sheer number of people who seek his services every day is a testament to the deep trust and confidence that Boothe instills in his patients through his tremendous skill and experience. To date, Dr. Boothe has successfully completed more than 115,000 LASIK procedures and more than 69,000 INTRALASIK procedures, making him one of the most experienced surgeons in the world.

In addition to laser surgery, the Boothe Eye Care Center also performs implant procedures using a variety of artificial intraocular lenses to replace the natural eye lens. Three types of lenses that Dr. Boothe offers include AcrySof ReSTOR, Crystalense and Verisyse Phakic Intraocular Lens. Acrysof ReSTOR is a soft plastic lens with a patented optic design that can be used for patients with or without presbyopia, who wish to improve their vision at various distances. The Crystalense uses the eye’s natural muscle to focus on objects at all distances, which allows for sharper vision at a full range. The Versisyse lens is a reversible procedure that allows patients to retain their natural lens, while correcting nearsightedness.
